• Convenient and widely available
• More hygienic if left out for grazing
• Ideal for puzzle feeders
• Higher energy density than wet food

Store dry food in a sealed bag or airtight container and check expiry dates regularly.
Does dry food clean teeth?
No. Dry food does not clean your cat’s teeth. Dental health depends on regular veterinary checks and, ideally, tooth brushing.
Wet food comes in tins, pouches and trays.
Pros:
• Often very palatable
• Provides a source of water, promotes urinary health, weight control (less energy density), beneficial in constipation and to prevent dehydration.
Cons:
• Spoils quickly
• Attracts flies in warm weather
• Must not be left out for long periods
Open tins and pouches should be covered and stored in the fridge. Allow chilled food to return to room temperature before feeding, as many cats dislike cold food.
Cats’ response to low moisture foods is to concentrate their urine rather than drink more water, so it is probably best to feed a mixture of wet and dry food unless otherwise advised by your vet. Just ensure portions are adjusted correctly.
