CEO, Chris Conneely

I feel incredibly privileged to lead The Irish Blue Cross, a charity that has been part of my life and career for over 30 years. Over that time, I’ve seen us grow from the expansion of our mobile veterinary clinics and horse ambulance service to the establishment of our highly successful Inchicore Clinic.

What makes me so proud is our people. Our staff and volunteers bring incredible dedication to our daily work, while our voluntary Board of Directors ensures we are led with the highest standards. This commitment to excellence was recognised when we achieved Triple Lock status from the Charities Institute, a gold standard for transparency and good governance.

In 2025, we celebrated a wonderful milestone: 80 years of caring for animals. Our clinic teams are the true stars of this journey, bringing compassion and professionalism to our essential veterinary services. We firmly believe every pet deserves veterinary care, regardless of their owner’s financial circumstances.

Today, our community impact extends even further through new initiatives such as microchipping clinics run in partnership with Maxi Zoo Ireland, the Northeast Inner-City Initiative, and Dublin City Council.

We collaborate on the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s Advisory Committee on Companion Animal Welfare and are grateful to the Department for providing decades-long animal welfare grant support to the animal welfare sector.  Throughout the years, so many other incredibly generous supporters and individuals have joined us on our journey too, providing funds, expertise, and legacy bequests, all of which have been essential to the development and growth of the Charity.

Our long-serving horse ambulance service continues to provide vital support at race meetings and equine events across Ireland. It is fully funded by the racing industry, and ensures horses are safely transported whenever immediate veterinary attention is required.

Looking ahead, our five-year roadmap, Building on Our Strengths 2025–2030, gives us a clear direction. We are focused on expanding our services sustainably, securing long-term funding, and promoting responsible pet ownership.

I remain as passionate about our mission as ever. Together, we will build on 80 years of history and ensure The Irish Blue Cross continues to be there for pets and the people who love them, for generations to come.
